SAF Magazine features Modern Della Robbia

Floral design has always been a blend of art and nature, but few styles capture this fusion as beautifully as the Della Robbia style. Named after the Italian Renaissance artist Luca Della Robbia, this style is renowned for its vibrant and artistic use of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Recently, this classic style has seen a resurgence, thanks to modern interpretations by talented florists around the world!

The History and Revival of Della Robbia

The Della Robbia style dates back to the Italian Renaissance, where Luca Della Robbia’s colorful terracotta statuary often included intricate arrangements of flowers paired with fruits and vegetables.

This unique combination created a visually stunning display that celebrated the beauty of nature in art.

Fast forward to the present day, and we see a revival of the Della Robbia style in floral design. By incorporating a variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers into their arrangements, florists are creating unique and eye-catching pieces that pay homage to the past while looking towards the future.

The Artistry of Della Robbia

One of the key elements of the Della Robbia style is the use of vibrant colors and textures. By combining different types of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, florists can create a dynamic and visually appealing arrangement that is both artistic and natural.

The juxtaposition of the different elements adds depth and interest to the design, making it a true work of art.

Another hallmark of the Della Robbia style is the attention to detail.

Florists who specialize in this style take great care in selecting the perfect combination of fruits, vegetables, and flowers to create a harmonious composition.

Each element is carefully placed to enhance the overall aesthetic and create a sense of balance and beauty.

Embracing the Della Robbia Renaissance in floral design is a way to pay tribute to the rich history of this art form while also pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation.

By combining the traditional elements of the Della Robbia style with modern techniques and materials, florists are able to create truly unique and captivating arrangements that are sure to impress.

Our own Lead Designer Andie Muller AIFD, PFCI, FSMD, took the idea and created a couple retail style arrangements, using hydrangeas and other beautiful fresh cut flowers, and incorporating limes and broccoli.
